Barranquilla's Carnival: Who lives it, is who enjoys it!



The Barranquilla's Carnival is the most important folklore celebration in Colombia and is the second bigger Carnival in the world after the Rio Carnival in Brazil. In 2007 was declared one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of the Humanity by the UNESCO in París.



The Carnival starts with the Pre-Carnival activities which inlude: Lectura del Bando, Toma de la Ciudad, crowing of the Carnival Queen and King, Children's Carnival Procession, Tha Gay Parada and The Guacherna that's the most important event on Friday before Saturday of Carnaval.

In Lectura del Bando is stated that everyone must enjoy themselves, dance and party wildly.

During the next 4 days there are a lot of events that Barranquilla's habitants, national and foreign tourists enjoy to the extreme; music, dance, liquor, Marimondas and jokes take part of the celebration.

Barranquilla's Carnival finish with the burial of Joselito Carnaval who is mourned by everyone. Joselito is a character that symbolizes the joy of the festivities who has resurrected in the Saturday of Carnival and dies in the last day for to resurrect the following year in the next Carnival.
